Open, Honest & Transparent

Scripture: Genesis 3:7

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

When we step outside of the will of God for our lives, we try to cover ourselves with things that were created for another purpose. Therefore, trying to hide from God using things that He himself created is self-deception. The fig leaves that Adam and his wife used to cover themselves, were created by God for a specific purpose, and it was not to cover the sin of mankind.

Reflection:
We should not try to cover ourselves, because we were not created to be covered by temporal things that were themselves created. God sees, and knows all. It is best for us to be open, honest and transparent with Him about everything. He knows our hearts because He made us. There is nothing that we cannot tell Him, and we do not need to be afraid of what He will say, or do. He is not a heavy task master. He is not abusive in anyway. He wants the best for us, because we our His creation; and He truly loves us.

Anyone that would try to help us cover up our sins by hiding within them; instead of being honest, and facing the issues of our heart condition, is not being a friend. We need to make sure that we are around people who will tell us the truth about our situation; and pray with us to overcome things that would ultimately interfere with our relationship with God.

Prayer:
Father God, I thank and praise you for showing me that it is futile to try to run and hide from you, because you are everywhere, and you are all-knowing. If I run and hide anywhere, I should run and hide in you; because you created me to have a loving and caring relationship with you.  I do not have to be afraid of you, because you made me in your image, and I am your Child. I thank and praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; and there is no need for me to cover up anything with you. In Jesus name, Amen.

Key Points:
  • Both of their eyes were opened to sin
  • Fear and shame replaced transparency
  • Fig leaves used for a man-made purpose
  • Sin leads to unauthorized workloads
  • Fear of the unknown leads to deceptive acts
  • God is love and there is no need to hide from Him
